A $7.5million contract to deliver best practice infrastructure at the Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility (SCWMF) has been awarded to local business DTA Contractors Pty Ltd.
The Darwin-based business will build an additional land fill cell, with work expected to commence at the end of the month and be completed in 20 weeks.
“The advantage of using local businesses for our program of works is they understand the environment in which we live and work,” said CEO Scott Waters. “There are challenges and local businesses understand these.”
“Awarding this contract to a local business aligns with City of Darwin’s ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses. In the first 23 days of this financial year we have awarded more than $8.5M in contracts to four local businesses.”
DTA Company Directors David Divilly and John Tomazos have more than 35 years combined experience in the construction industry in Darwin.
DTA Managing Director, David Divilly said “We are pleased to be awarded this contract and look forward to working collaboratively with City of Darwin in delivering this project.”

Ron Grinsell, General Manager Engineering and City Services is overseeing the SCWMF project, along with an ambitious infrastructure program in 2019/20.
“Council has approved an unprecedented $53.07M investment in capital works,” said Ron. “Over the next twelve months my team will be managing and implementing major projects to improve the liveability of our city”.
“Our aim is beautify and cool our city, add greenery and colour, improve infrastructure and enhance public amenities in the CBD and suburbs.”
The Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility (SBWMF) services both domestic and commercial customers in the Darwin and surrounding regional areas.
