Regenerative grazing techniques can improve soil health, lower the costs of production and reduce seasonal risk for farmers.
Council is holding an introductory information session about this low input, innovative technique on Monday 5 August, 10am to 1pm, at Sidonia Beef Farm, Sidonia. Participants will hear from expert regenerative grazier Graeme Hand and about Sidonia beef farmer, Sam White’s journey with regenerative agriculture. Lunch and morning tea will be provided.
Greater Glider under threatCome along and hear about the elusive Greater Glider and why it is under threat. A discussion group will be held from 3pm to 4.30pm at the Newham Mechanics Institute, 1292 Rochford Road, on Saturday 31 August and will report on the outcome of the recent Spotlight on Species citizen science project to locate the Greater Glider, Powerful Owl and Phascogale in the region.
This will be the final event of the Spotlight on Species project—a joint initiative between the Upper Campaspe Landcare Network (UCLN) and the Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the data collected as a result of the surveys will be added to the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas to help protect these species and their habitat.
The discussion will be led by mammal experts Peter Monkhorst and Jemma Cripps and will be followed by an interactive discussion about why the once plentiful Greater Glider is in decline and what the community can do to help. Afternoon tea will be provided. Book your place
Learn to press plant cuttingsFor those with more of a botanic interest, there is the opportunity to learn how to preserve and press plant cuttings and create pieces of unique art.
Botanist and Council environmental planner, Karen Muscat will hold a workshop at Woodend Library, Forest Street, on Wednesday 14 August, 6.30pm to 8.30pm, and participants are encouraged to bring samples from their own gardens. Book your place
Sustainable building adviceFor those planning to build or renovate, Council is holding two sustainable building design information sessions to provide information on ways to save energy, water and money.
The sessions will be held on Thursday 8 August, 7.30pm–8.30pm, at the Romsey Community Hub, 96-100 Main Road, Romsey, and in Malmsbury on Thursday 15 August, 7.30pm–8.30pm, at the Malmsbury Town Hall, 91 Mollison Street. Book your place
