The changed road conditions and water barriers along Inch Street, Lithgow are in place to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

Council has in place a change to ordinary traffic conditions along Inch Street, with signage, barriers and fencing to restrict access and prevent vehicles from hitting the valves and covers that have been installed as part of the water main renewals.

There has been considerable delay to finalization of the project as Council is awaiting a specialized valve to be manufactured from a company in the United States. This valve has been required as the pipe size and type are abnormal and these valves are generally manufactured upon request. Unfortunately there are no other alternatives within Australia. The valve is expected to be delivered in 10 weeks and the remaining works planned to occur immediately upon its arrival.

Due to the inability to shut down the system, “instavalves” are in place temporarily, but due to the depth of the water main the valve tops extend above the current road surface level. To prevent damage to the vehicles and the infrastructure, water barriers have been placed to divert traffic around the valve stem and box.

Council apologises for the ongoing interruption it has caused and would like to thank the community for their patience. Please observe all road rules and obey signage within the area.
