Excelsior Library - New interactive technology

The Excelsior Library team in Charters Towers has recently completed their latest project with the installation of an external interactive touch screen and the purchase of a 60-inch mobile touch screen.

The external screen has been installed in the Library window, facing Gill Street, which allows visitors and the community access to the technology 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The information available ranges from community information including road closures, weather events via Council’s Emergency Dashboard and the library’s catalogue, Aurora Montage.

“This project is aimed at providing digital access to information for those of our community without technology in their homes. They can access important information and see what’s happening in our community day or night,” Cr Graham Lohmann said.

The library was also fortunate to have been able to fund a large mobile 60-inch interactive touchscreen which can be used by library visitors. The screen has access to the library’s catalogue to search and reserve resources and a wide range of Council services and information.

The mobile screen can also be used for remote meetings and training purposes via its webcam and has a vast array of educational games.

“The screen can lay flat in table-top mode which provides extra benefits when using the screen. We’ve already had large numbers of families take advantage of the educational games on offer.

“The potential for this resource is endless and library staff are happy to assist anyone in using this wonderful asset in our library.”

This project was proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government and the State Library of Queensland and enables all members of our community and visitors to easily access information at a touch.
