Ringwood Art Society ‘Artist of the Year’ soon to be announced

Join us for the launch of two exhibitions at Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery – The Artist of the Year and A Sunburnt Country - celebrating newly created works by artists from the Ringwood Art Society.

The Artist of the Year exhibition is a highlight of the Ringwood Art Society’s annual program and celebrates the diverse talents of the society’s members across portraiture, landscape and still life in a variety of mediums.

Featured simultaneously in Gallery 2 at Maroondah Federation Estate, the Ringwood Art Society will present its final exhibition of the year A Sunburnt Country. The exhibition highlights its talented members, and is inspired by the famous poem by Dorothea Mackellar.

Both exhibitions will be launched on Thursday 1 August by Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Rob Steane.

“Each year, a work is selected from the Artist of the Year exhibition with the artist claiming the prestigious Artist of the Year title,” Cr Steane said.

“The standard of work we’ve seen submitted in previous years has been very high, which is not surprising from such a strong regional art group as the Ringwood Art Society,” he said.

The winning artist will be announced at the official opening launch by guest judge Barbara McManus, teacher and fellow of The Victorian Artists Society.

“Barbara McManus has spent many years on the teaching staff of the Victorian Artists’ Society and was made a fellow of the society in 1990,” Cr Steane said.

“Barbara has been the recipient of more than 50 awards, including the coveted A.M.E. Bale Overseas Scholarship. Her work has also been included in the International Pastel Exhibition in Lillie, France, and features in private and corporate collections in Switzerland, UK, USA and Australia,” he said.

Cr Steane said what began as several artists meeting at the homes of other enthusiastic local artists more than 50 years ago had today expanded to more than 150 members, who have since 2015 called Maroondah Federation Estate home.

The official opening will take place on Thursday 1 August 2019, from 6pm to 8pm at Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery, 32 Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood.
