2019-20 Budget focuses on roads and local infrastructure 29 July 2019

Council sought to minimise the rate increase, while ensuring it continues to deliver the critical infrastructure projects required to support the Shire’s growing community.

Shire President Michelle Rich said the 2019/20 Annual Budget reflected the aspirations of the Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027 and includes spending on roads and footpaths, parks and facilities, environment initiatives, fire and emergency management, community development programs for youth, families and seniors and strategic planning for the growth of the region.

“This budget is the result of a considered and sustainable approach to financial management that will allow the Shire to deliver on the priorities and aspirations of our community,” Cr Rich said.

 “We were conscious of balancing the need to maintain the operating costs of essential services that our community expects, while also delivering important projects and initiatives for the benefit of our whole community.”

Major projects and initiatives

Completion of the $19 million upgrade of Abernethy Road Completion of the $4.2 million Briggs Park lower oval upgrade $996,000allocated for our fire and emergency services and to support our volunteers $480,000 to build a dedicated dog park in Byford $300,000 contribution towards the Nature Play and Splash Park in Byford

Infrastructure

$1.8 million to convert Mundijong Road and Kargotich Road intersection into a single roundabout $539,000 for rehabilitation works on Mundijong Road $421,000 for rehabilitation works on Rowley Road $420,000 for traffic island installation at Abernethy Road and Kargotich Road $220,000 for road resurfacing for Elliott Road, Gossage Road and North Crescent (from Park Road) $250,000 for principle shared path along Thomas Road, Byford from Alexander Road to Tonkin Highway $210,000 for principle shared path along Soldiers Road rail reserve from Abernethy Road to Bishop Road $100,000 for road safety initiatives $30,000 for new footpath along Linton Street, Byford, from Brown Street to Shelley Street (westside) $26,000 for footpath renewal along Lefroy Street, Serpentine, from Wellard Street to primary school
