Hill Street Bus Station enhanced with scenic works from local artist Jet James

Spectacular renditions of local landscapes have recently been integrated into the Hill Street Bus Station in the form of illuminated glass panels, as part of Council’s latest placemaking project.
The stunning works by well-known Capricorn Coast artist Jet James celebrate our region’s natural beauty and include representations of Cooee Bay Beach, Ross Creek the and Yeppoon headlands which celebrate our regions natural beauty.
Jet said he believed the placemaking programme was a much-needed initiative to highlight the rich artistic and cultural voices which exists in our community, and to showcase this vibrancy to our community and the tourists who visit the Capricorn Coast.
“Each of the works explore different views of the Capricorn Coast, I wanted to capture the diversity in the area including iconic spots like Ross Creek, Cooee Bay, Main Beach and the cabbage palms that are found across the area,” Jet said.
“The glass panels utilise a specialised ceramic printing technique, this technique creates a unique finish, which is most evident when light passes through the glass, generating a glowing effect.
“I hope the public connects with the artworks and the places depicted, because they’re intended to celebrate the richness of our natural and built environments, the natural beauty of the coast and invoke a sense of wonder and nostalgia.”
Deputy Mayor Nigel Hutton encouraged residents and visitors to take a stroll past the panels, especially during the festivities of The Village Festival.
“These placemaking projects celebrate our regions diverse arts community while showcasing the beauty of the place we call home,” Cr Hutton said.
Libraries, Arts and Culture Councillor Pat Eastwood said there were more placemaking projects in the pipeline including the installation of artistic bike racks in Emu Park, repainting of the Yeppoon foreshore patterned boardwalk and an interpretative literary installation at the Yeppoon library.
“Council has received fantastic feedback on the placemaking projects which have been established across the Shire in the past two years and Council looks forward to creating more of these innovative opportunities for the community and visitors to enjoy,” Cr Eastwood said.
