Wollondilly Shire is rich in natural heritage, including unspoiled creeks and rivers. The Shire also contains much of Sydney’s drinking water catchment.
These waterways are home to a wide range of biodiversity including threatened species and provide recreational swimming spaces for locals and visitors.
Council is keen to conserve these natural water sources and is seeking community input to develop an Integrated Water Management Strategy.
Manager Environment, Alex Stengl said, “It is important to understand the significance of our waterways to the community and to manage and protect these into the future.”
“Wollondilly is experiencing increasing growth which will impact the water quality and supply, biodiversity, recreation and climate resilience.” Council would like to know what the community values most about our local waterways. Resident feedback will inform the level of protection given to our waterways and water conservation in the development of the strategy.
The Integrated Water Management Strategy will aim to protect the health of the aquatic ecosystems and add value to liveability, recreation, biodiversity, climate resilience and flood management. The intention is to minimise the long term resource and cost burden on Council, the community and other stakeholders as well as promoting water conservation and reuse.
Council has developed some survey questions to give residents the opportunity to have their say on this important environmental issue https://www.yoursay.wollondilly.nsw.gov.au/
