Liverpool City Council is calling for residents to help choose between five options to change ward boundaries.

The Liverpool Local Government Area is split into North Ward and South Ward, with five Councillors elected for each. The Mayor is elected separately.

Currently, there is a 13% difference between the number of electors in each ward, with North Ward having 63,925 electors and South Ward having 74,188.

Under the Local Government Act, Council is required to alter the ward boundaries to reduce the variation to less than 10%.

“We have identified five options for changing our ward boundaries,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Now it’s up to residents to tell us which they prefer.

“Each of these options will achieve our goal of less than 10% variation between wards but they all have subtle differences.

“Democracy is crucial to our way of life in Australia. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to an important part of the democratic process.”

The five options are on public exhibition at www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/ward-boundaries until Thursday 12 September 2019.
