Wyndham City is excited to secure famous television personality Craig Reucassel to be keynote speaker at a special event at this year’s Wyndham Learning Festival.
Craig is best known from ABC’s television series War on Waste, where he focusses on the impact of the material and food waste Australians produce every year and finds ways to reduce its volume.
Environment and Sustainability portfolio holder Cr Heather Marcus said Wyndham was producing 45,000 tonnes of landfill waste and 18,000 tonnes of recycling waste annually and Craig Reucassel would help the community to reduce this.
“Craig will speak about how each of us can contribute to reducing these figures by being more aware of what we are throwing away,” Cr Marcus said.
“He will share his knowledge with us on the staggering amounts of food, fashion, packaging and electronics we produce and consume in Australia every year and will offer real and attainable solutions that everyone can use at home.”
“Craig will discuss all things waste, from recycling to the recent ban on throwing electronic, or e-waste, into residential bins.”
“There will be a free e-waste drop off area at the event where audience members can recycle small electronic appliances such as phones, toasters and laptops.”
“Several of Wyndham’s sustainability champions will have environmentally-themed stands showcasing what we can do to reduce our household waste as well as providing inspiration and tips for living a more sustainable life.”
