Wyndham is on the sustainability map after several local organisations were announced as finalists in the Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable City Awards.
The Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable City Awards recognise and celebrate positive actions taken by communities in urban areas to protect and enhance their local environments.
Environment and Sustainability portfolio holder Cr Heather Marcus said the awards took into consideration litter prevention, recycling, protection of the environment, preserving heritage, community action and leadership in environmental sustainability programs.
"I am proud that Wyndham has been recognised as finalists across a range of categories for both Council and community-run initiatives,” Cr Marcus said.
“Wyndham City has been recognised for its great work in using recycled materials in roads and footpaths, its 90 per cent waste diversion plan, supporting biodiversity on private land, protecting the environment one development at a time and Wyndham’s Healthier Waterways Program.”
“I am pleased that our schools are taking a lead on sustainability with Truganina South Primary School in the finals for its Greening our School project.”
“Werribee River Association is a finalist in the Protection of the Environment Award for its incredible work improving the health of the Werribee River.”
“Wyndham features prominently in these awards due to the proactive sustainability efforts of our environmental partners.”
“I am delighted that council and community can work together to achieve the environmental outcomes set out in our Environment and Sustainability Strategy 2016 – 2040.”
