Sun setting on entries into the My Moree Photography Competition

Budding photographers with their sights set on the mammoth $4,500 prize pool for the second My Moree photography competition are reminded that they only have until midnight Sunday 11 August to post their entries to the My Moree Facebook page.

Council’s Acting Manager of Economic Development and Grants Mrs Susannah Pearse said that organisers were pleased to see some beautiful entries already submitted to the competition and encouraged locals to not leave their run to the last minute to get their photos in.

“During the last competition in 2017 we saw a rush of entries happening in the hours and minutes before the competition closed and a number unfortunately narrowly missed the deadline.

“We’d hate to see anyone miss out on being in the running due to an unforeseen technical issue, so encourage everyone to get their entries in as soon as possible” she said.

The inaugural 2017 competition saw more than 400 entries received from community members demonstrating what ‘My Moree’ means to them and thousands of visitors flocking to Bank Art Museum Moree (BAMM) to see the My Moree Photography Competition exhibition on display.

The 2019 competition has been touted as being bigger and better, with a whole-of-floor exhibition at BAMM throughout September and October, a larger prize pool, and winners awarded in a new range of categories, including:

To enter the competition, entrants must post a photo taken within the Moree Plains Shire to the My Moree Facebook page during the competition period, with the wording “here’s my entry into the #mymoree photography competition”.

For entries in the Up and Coming Talent category, the photographer must be 18 years or younger and the photo must be posted to the My Moree Facebook page during the competition period, with the wording “here’s my entry into the Up and Coming Talent prize in the #mymoree photography competition”.

All entries must be the poster’s original work, or clearly identify the original artist. Entrants are encouraged to provide a brief explanation of their photo entry, however this is not mandatory.

Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Manager Mrs Libby Carter explained that the new Our History category was a great opportunity to showcase one of your photographs belonging to a time before the days of social media or cameras on phones.

“Entrants keen to submit photos for consideration in the Our History category may do so by taking a photo or scanning the image, then posting to the page.

“Where required, we will contact entrants directly should we need to obtain a better copy of the photo for exhibition purposes.

“But for the purpose of entering the competition, the entry photo can just be an image of the original photograph. If you haven’t already done so, now’s the time to pour over your old photo albums.”

Photo entries will be judged by an independent panel on their popularity (likes, reactions and shares) on the My Moree Facebook page and their creativity.
