HAVE YOUR SAY: BROOKDALE RESERVE DRAFT MASTER PLAN

A new baseball and softball field, a 700-metre running track, and play equipment are key features of a planned sports reserve in Point Cook.

Wyndham City has prepared the draft Brookdale Road Reserve Master Plan, which Council endorsed for release at Tuesday’s (6th August) council meeting.

Residents are now invited to have their say on the plan and provide feedback. 

The plan proposes to build a four-hectare sporting reserve across from Saltwater P-9 College and close to Saltwater Community Centre.

Sports Development portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the reserve is proposed to be used primarily as a baseball and softball field, with the potential to host football, soccer and cricket games.

“The reserve also includes intergenerational fitness and play equipment, so grandparents will be able to join in on the fun with their grandchildren,” Cr Maynard said.

“The idea for the baseball and softball field was based on community feedback undertaken for the Wyndham Sports Strategy 2045.”

“Wyndham residents told Council they would like a greater diversity of sports facilities in the municipality, with baseball and softball identified as a priority.”

“Baseball’s popularity in Asia is out of the park and its popularity is steadily rising in Australia.”

“There are currently no baseball or softball fields in Point Cook, so this reserve will provide a new opportunity for residents to hit a home run.”

Point Cook is a rapidly growing community, with its population almost doubling in the past eight years, from 33,000 people in 2011 to 63,000 now.

Council is committed to providing new facilities for residents to get active, live a healthy lifestyle and connect with their neighbours.
