Local entrepreneur Sandri Silvi is set to bring her new business idea to life, as the inaugural recipient of the City of Armadale sponsored Curtin University Ignition Scholarship 2019.
Funded by the City for the first time in 2019, the scholarship will enable Ms Silvi to further develop her novel social enterprise start-up idea that aims to help women achieve greater work life balance.
‘She Sells It’ curates and sells recycled clothing through its Ebay store, employing women in a self-sustaining model that aims to provide flexible work opportunities, training, development and an environment sympathetic to the dual pressures of career and family on working mothers.
Ms Silvi will join 54 other participants in August for the Curtin week long intensive training program including expert clinics, mentor sessions and experienced advice and support from leading entrepreneurs and innovators.
City of Armadale’s Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said it is important the City supports innovation in the local business community.
“Innovative new business ideas bring great value to the local community, ensuring businesses are responding to the changing needs of customers and in turn providing important socio-economic returns.
“Funding this scholarship makes sure these ideas are properly supported to get off the ground, and we are excited to see where Ms Silvi takes her great idea next,” said Mayor Zelones.
Since its inception in 2010, Curtin Ignition has supported over 200 Western Australian small businesses to develop their business ideas further.
