Movie buffs can look forward to even greater movie experiences with Audio-Visual improvements coming soon to Western Downs cinemas.
Upgrades to the tune of $40,000 are planned for both Dalby and Chinchilla Cinemas this year when the audio-visual equipment is replaced.
The system upgrade will include small closed caption systems to improve the experience for vision-impaired and hearing-impaired cinema-goers, from those with slight hearing loss and hearing aid/cochlear implants through to total hearing loss.
Western Downs Regional Council’s Spokesperson for Facilities, Councillor Ray Brown, is stoked to see local cinemas doing so well.
“The first round of upgrades including our online ticketing platform, EFT facilities, gift cards and popcorn, have already had such a positive impact on our cinema experiences and will be further enhanced by the coming AV upgrades,” he said.
“Western Downs Cinemas will continue to offer value-for-money experiences alongside their new and improved facilities, with ticket prices on average cheaper than cinema prices in larger cities.
“We’ve also had some great opportunities this year to release box-office hits such as Avengers: Endgame at the same time major cities across Australia, which isn’t always the case in regional areas.”
Avengers: Endgame, the top-grossing film of all time worldwide, brought over 1,000 guests to Dalby Cinema in its first week, with staff forced to turn away over 100 guests as a result of five sell-out screenings across the region.
The Western Downs Cinemas can also be hired as venues for community and cultural activities in the same way as Council’s other facilities.
Bookings cover a range of activities including private movie screenings, corporate events and fundraising events for community groups including schools and business and can also be booked by individuals.
The anticipated completion date for the cinema upgrades is 31 December 2019.
