Works will commence shortly on traffic alterations to Lake Wallace, Wallerawang which will see some areas with restricted access.

As part of ongoing discussions with the Roads and Maritime Services and the Department of Education, Lithgow City Council has become aware of safety concerns within the Lake Wallace site, directly adjacent to Wallerawang Public School. During peak pick-up and drop-off times, the area directly opposite the school becomes congested with pedestrians and vehicles. Combined with restricted site distances, the safety of children and their parents is of great concern to Council.

Hence, in the week commencing 12 August, Council will be installing a number of concrete blocks to restrict vehicular access to the area directly opposite Wallerawang Public School. While pedestrian access will be maintained, vehicle access will be restricted to ensure the safety of children and their parents crossing Barton Avenue during peak periods.

Aside from these measures, Council engineers are proposing more permanent solutions to this matter. Additional parking areas are being considered within Lake Wallace. Any future works will be subject to consultation between Council, Department of Education, RMS and Energy Australia (who own the site).

It is requested that all users of Lake Wallace, particularly those who pick up and drop off children to Wallerawang Public School, respect the imposed restrictions for the safety of all pedestrians.
