Construction of the two-level Monbulk Community Sports Pavilion is complete, with an official opening to be held on Saturday 17 August.
The new pavilion includes unisex change rooms for football, netball and cricket players and umpires, social space complete with bar and kitchen, canteen for match day refreshments and a club and community meeting room.
Yarra Ranges Mayor, Tony Stevenson said Council wanted to ensure that the Monbulk community would have a building that welcomed people of all abilities and genders.
“It’s fantastic that we’ve got a pavilion now that welcomes everyone in the community.
“It replaces several older buildings that were failing to meet community standards, with a modern building that will serve the Monbulk community for the next 50 plus years,” Cr Stevenson said.
Council has managed the project and invested $1.7m, the State Government's Growing Suburbs Fund has provided $1m, Sport and Recreation Victoria has provided $600,000 as has the Federal Government's National Stronger Futures Fund. The clubs have raised and contributed $200,000.
The Sports Pavilion will open from noon on Saturday with the official opening ceremony taking place at 1:30pm. This will be followed by the Monbulk vs. Mt. Evelyn senior's game.
