Children’s Book Week creativity abounds Monday 12 August

Join in events at East Gippsland Shire Council’s libraries to celebrate Children’s Book Week from August 17-23.

Council’s Library Programs Team Leader Kylie Pinkerton said the annual Book Week competition had more than 300 entries and the award winners will be presented on August 24.

“Book Week is a fun time to visit your nearest library; bringing children and books together to celebrate and participate in activities,” Ms Pinkerton said.

Two events planned for the Bairnsdale Library are as follows.

Sharon Keep Your Hair on performance:

Celebrate Children’s Book Week with a special performance by Bairnsdale Independent Theatre Experience (BITE) on Thursday, August 22, from 5-5.30pm. Bookings required on 5152 4225.

The performance is based on the fantastic children’s story book by Australian author Gillian Rubinstein. It’s a fun-filled family show with loads of laughter, audience participation and a gorilla!

Come along and support local children as they bring this wonderful story to life. The show is aimed at primary school aged students and their families.

Dress up competition and activity session:

Children age five to 12 are invited to come dressed up as their favourite book character, listen to stories, and decorate their own scrapbook on Saturday, August 24, 10–11.15am. Bookings required.

A costume parade will be held, with prizes awarded for the best dressed.
