Pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular safety, enhanced useability and visual appeal all formed key components of the recently completed $1.02 million Waldock Road and Heilbronn Road widening and footpath project.
“Waldock Road and Heilbronn Road are heavily used and service a number of important community facilities such as schools,” Infrastructure Services Portfolio Councillor, Bob Leitch said. “The aim of the project was to improve traffic flow, road access and safety to not only road users, but pedestrians and cyclists,” he said.
Council crews constructed 720 metres of concrete pathway along Waldock Road linking Groundwater Road to Heilbronn Road and the Mary Valley Road; installed a pedestrian refuge on Waldock Road, allowing safe passage to and from Heilbronn Road; constructed 400 metres of concrete pathway along Heilbronn Road linking Waldock Road to Jones Hill State School; constructed 860 metres of road widening and bitumen sealing along Waldock Road and Heilbronn Road; installed 910 metres of kerb and channelling; conducted tree planting and landscaping which provides shade and street appeal; and installed LED street lighting at the pedestrian refuge resulting in less pole numbers and an energy efficient output compared to previous methods.
Council contributed $607,148 to these works, with the remaining $415,202 coming from the state government’s Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme.
