Gympie Regional Council won the Large Employer of the Year award at the North Coast Region final of the Queensland Training Awards at Bundaberg on Saturday night. Council received the award for its contribution to staff education and training.
Over the last financial year, council employed over 38 trainees and apprentices, conducted 175 short training courses and provided 4000 learning opportunities. “Local government performs a number of important functions in a community such as providing high quality employment opportunities and training to existing staff,” said Gympie Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Bernard Smith.
“I am incredibly proud of the organisation for their efforts that led to council receiving this award”. “Acknowledgment of skills and the achievement of nationally recognised training has been a focus of our approach to staff development.” “Council aims to provide an environment that promotes continuous learning.
By growing and maintaining skilled workers, the organisation is in a better place to serve the community and help close industry skills gaps,” he said. Council would like to congratulate all of the winners and finalists for their achievements and would like to thank the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training and the Queensland Training Awards for their contribution and support in developing the vocational education industry.
We would also like to thank Challenge Employment and Training for their generosity in sponsoring this event.
