Mount Isa will take a journey down the yellow brick road when Good Shepherd Catholic College host a magical ball on September 21. GSCC Parents and Friends committee have changed their main fundraiser for this year by hosting a ball instead of their annual fete. GSCC Assistant Principal and P&F committee member Jade Marinelli said this was a new project for the college. "We have made the decision this year that we will host a ball and alternate between the fete and ball each year," Ms Marinelli said. "This will be our first college ball in seven years, so it is really exciting." The theme is The Wizard of Oz, which coincides with this year's college musical and will showcase students' talents. "At the ball we will have a number of our students perform as the pre-entertainment," Ms Marinelli said. "We will have musical and drama students who will go around as actors and interact with the audience as well as sing songs and play in their small bands. "We also do have a live band performing later in the evening." Ms Marinelli said the ball was another way to engage the community into the college, with funds going towards developing resources within the school. "Last year the P&F donated a massive projector for our school hall and install water bubblers at the basketball court," Ms Marinelli said. "In the money from previous fundraising has contributed to sending students away for sporting trips, music trips and a range of activities. "It's all about being able to give back to the students." Only 280 tickets will be sold with the event being held on Saturday September 21 at the college hall. Tickets go on sale August 24, 9am out the front of the college and are $150 each, which includes a three course meal and bottle of win per table. If a full table is purchased on August 24, each guest on that table will also receive a complimentary drink. "We are hoping tickets will sell out fast," Ms Marinelli said. "Mount Isa loves a good ball and the P&F Ball is one not to be missed." READ MORE: Spooky new TV series to feature Boulia's Min Min Light.
