Voyager Point Community Centre has reopened with a new function room for 50 people and timber flooring, a kitchen and bathrooms.

The centre was completely refurbished after Liverpool City Council conducted extensive community consultation in March this year.

Residents told Council they wanted a centre that could be used for workshops, exercise classes, charity events and private hire, as well as commercial enterprises such as markets and pop-ups.

The renovations involved removing of internal walls to create the open-plan function room plus new blinds, lighting, signage, tables, chairs, decking, access ramps and painting. The bathrooms include a new accessible toilet and baby change facilities.

“Council staff and contractors have done such a wonderful job restoring this special building,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “We couldn’t be happier with the result – and we know the community will love it too.

“The centre provides a place for residents to gather, socialise and connect. And it now has the amenities and access for everyone, which will mean the world to hirers and groups who use the facility.”

The centre at 50 Orlando Crescent, Voyager Point will be formally reopened at a public celebration on Sunday 11 August from 10am to 12pm.

Council is calling for community groups and interested parties who are interested in hiring the centre to contact the Customer Service Centre on 1300 36 2170.
