Funds target city’s disaster resilience

Council has applied for almost $250,000 in funding to increase the city’s response, resilience and recovery to natural disasters.

Applications for funding have been made under the FNQ and NQ Monsoon Trough – Category C Flexible Funding Grants Program for four projects:

Disaster resilience and recovery in the Cairns business sector ($45,000),Protective abilities and resilience capabilities of local ecosystems ($45,000),Building community economic capacity through understanding insurance levels in the Cairns region ($37,000), andCairns resilient communications for disaster response and recovery ($119,200).

The Program is an initiative jointly funded under the Commonwealth and State disaster recovery funding arrangements.

Funding aims to support projects driving recovery and building awareness to reduce future risks and dependence on government assistance, enhance individual and community responses, minimise negative impacts and embrace opportunities, support businesses and service providers and promote preparedness and resilience to future disasters.
