Western Downs Regional Council has extended the deadline for the current round of applications for the Adopt A Street Tree Program until this Sunday 18 August 2019.
There is still time for residents to register for Council’s street tree program, which has seen over 3,500 trees planted across the region since 2017.
Council’s 2019/20 budget includes $7.6 million towards parks and gardens works, $300,000 of which is a Works for Queensland grant to be invested into the continuation of the Adopt A Street Tree program.
Council’s Spokesperson for Parks and Open Spaces, Councillor Carolyn Tillman is pleased with the positive change the program has brought to the region.
“Our parks and gardens are a huge part of our communities and we’re grateful for the opportunity to further improve outdoor spaces in the coming years – it makes our streets more welcoming,” she said.
“Adding more trees to our streets is only going to encourage our community members to enjoy more time outside, especially as spring approaches.”
Council’s Parks and Open Space Coordinator and Horticulturist Matthew Robertson said that it is a great opportunity for our residents to work with Council in improving our local natural spaces.
“Planting these trees will bring a lot of good to the community, such as clean air, and more habitats for our native wildlife.”
