Ever dreamt of being a City Councillor?
City of Armadale 14 Aug 2019

Do you want to participate in the City of Armadale’s Council decision making process, have an interest in people and a willingness to invest your time and energy serving the needs and interests of your local community? Then we have an opportunity for you!

Nominations to become a candidate in the 2019 City of Armadale Local Government Elections open Thursday 5 September.

City of Armadale Chief Executive Officer Cliff Frewing said residents who have considered standing as a candidate for local government are encouraged to put their best foot forward and nominate to become a councillor in the upcoming local government election.

“There are seven councillor vacancies in the City this year in the Heron, Hills, Lake, Minnawarra, Ranford, Palomino and River Wards. Councillors are elected by the constituents in the ward for which they nominate, but they may live in another ward.”

The role of councillor is a rewarding one, but candidates need to be aware of the responsibility and time commitment required in taking on the role of City Councillor.

Councillors are elected for a four year term and once elected are bound to make decisions on behalf of all electors across the City.

“There are a number of criteria to meet, which are detailed on the Nomination for Election by Candidate form.”

“I hope the public will come out on Saturday 19 October and make their vote count,” added Mr Frewing.

A presentation to potential candidates will be made on Tuesday 27 August in the City of Armadale Function Room from 6 to 8pm, all interested candidates are welcome to attend.

Nominations open on Thursday 5 September and close a week later on Thursday 12 September 2019 at 4pm.

Prospective candidates must undertake mandatory online candidate training and then complete a nomination form and present it to the Returning Officer before nominations close on Thursday 12 September.
