The Wollondilly community is leading the charge when it comes to reusing and recycling household items, with a group of Picton residents getting in early and registering Australia’s first ‘street sale’ for this year’s Garage Sale Trail.
The ‘Friesian Way Frenzy’ street sale will be part of the nationwide community and sustainability event on the weekend of Saturday 19 October and Sunday 20 October.
Supported by over 140 councils nationally, Wollondilly is joining the Garage Sale Trail for a second year, after last year’s event was enthusiastically embraced by locals.
33 Wollondilly sites were signed up in 2018 and even more locals are expected to take advantage of the opportunity to clear out their unwanted items this October.
Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “Garage Sale Trail presents a fun and social way for Council to encourage reuse and help educate people about the impact we can all make when we buy secondhand.”
“It is a great way to meet your neighbours and connect with the broader community while also decluttering and raising money for yourself or charity. I hope many more Wollondilly residents, schools, community groups and businesses sign up,” he said.
At last year’s Garage Sale Trail household garage sales made an average of $309 and more than 500kgs of stuff was sold and redistributed at each garage sale. Registrations are free and open to households, schools, community groups and anyone who is up for a weekend of fun.
The first 1,250 sellers who register before 10 September will receive a free seller pack with posters, price tags and more.
