From bullying and social media pressures to depression and anxiety, Wyndham’s young people often need a bit of extra support.
That’s why Wyndham City has invited top clinical psychologist and family therapist Andrew Fuller to help families understand the stresses and strains of adolescence in today’s world and find ways to relieve the pressure.
Wyndham City Council will hold an information session for parents, caregivers and their children at Kelly Park Centre, Friday 6 September at 6:30pm.
Learning City portfolio holder Cr Josh Gilligan said the information night, aimed at parents and young people, would help parents and carers strengthen families and their understanding of emerging issues.
“At the family information event Mr Fuller will speak about how to understand and manage anxiety, how to prevent depression and how to promote wellbeing,” Cr Gilligan said.
“He will also discuss how to grow success, manage time and develop strong mental health and resilience to adversity.”
“After attending this information session, parents and carers will feel be more confident and able to support their children when they identify stress and anxiety.”
“Previous young attendees found their parents and care givers became more understanding and approachable after attending such information sessions.”
“Securing such a prestigious clinical psychologist is a coup for Wyndham residents, who can attend this talk at no cost.”
Andrew Fuller is an ambassador for Mind Matters and a member of the National Coalition Against Bullying and principal consultant to the national drug prevention strategy for Regional Enterprise Development Institute.
“Andrew has recently been described as an “interesting mixture of Billy Connolly, Tim Winton and Frasier Crane” and as someone who “puts the heart back into psychology”,” Cr Gilligan said.
“He works with many schools and communities in Australia and internationally, specialising in the wellbeing of young people and their families.”
