Residents living in Cecil Plains and Yarraman will move to high level water restrictions from Monday 19 August.
As the Region continues to experience severe drought, Toowoomba Regional Council Waste and Water Committee Chair Nancy Sommerfield said the move to high level water restrictions was necessary for these communities.
“The hard truth is that we simply aren’t receiving the rain we desperately need,” she said.
“As a result of this, we are experiencing significant stress on some water supplies and our Council bores are under pressure in a number of regional communities.
“In Cecil Plains the water level of our weir is quite low which means we’ve had to commence carting in one truck of water a week from Millmerran to supplement water supply there.
“We’re also moving Yarraman to high as the weir in this area is producing poor water quality and we have become more reliant on the pipeline from Boondooma Dam.”
The decision to move these two communities to high level water restrictions comes on the back of Vale View moving to high level in June 2019.
“The bore in Vale View is still under stress and we’ll continue to monitor our water levels and if needed, will truck water as necessary,” Cr Sommerfield said.
“We’re just one of the many region’s currently facing these drought conditions, along with our neighbouring areas.
“I would like to thank our community for the work they’ve been doing to reduce water consumption so far and ask that we all remain vigilant in our efforts to conserve water wherever possible.
“In the meantime Council will continue to look at other solutions to reduce the stress on our aquifers.
“We will also continue working with both the State and Federal Governments and all other interested parties, including the private sector and irrigators across the region on our long-term water security planning.”
