Garage Sale Trail launches in Claremont
Town of Claremont 15 Aug 2019
Claremont households, schools and community groups are set to join over 400,000 people across Australia on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October as part of the ninth annual Garage Sale Trail.

A multi award-winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail helps people reduce waste and raise money, either for themselves or for a cause close to their heart.

Powered by over 140 local councils nationwide, it’s expected that this year’s weekend-long event will involve more people than ever before, with 16,000 garage sale events across the country.

Mayor Jock Barker said the Garage Sale Trail is a fun and social way for people to choose to reuse.

“The Garage Sale Trail is an opportunity to meet your neighbours and connect with the broader community, while at the same time decluttering and raising money for yourself or for charity,” Mayor Barker said.

“Waste is a big environmental issue, but we can all play our part by choosing to reuse. Rather than throwing things away, the Garage Sale Trail helps Town of Claremont residents find a new home for once-loved items. As the saying goes: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!”

Garage Sale Trail Co-Founder, Andrew Valder, said sellers who have a bit of fun with their garage sale name and go to town on marketing tend to sell the most.

“Garage sale names like ‘Sale of the Century’, ‘The Almost-Deceased Estate Sale’, ‘It’s a Divorce’ and the ‘Crap and Crepes Sale’ stick in our minds. At the Crap and Crepes Sale, four students from France gave away a crepe with every purchase. You can see how businesses start in garages!” Andrew Valder said.

Event organisers project that more than 2 million items will be listed for sale or reuse across Australia over the Garage Sale Trail weekend.

The first 1,250 sellers who register before 10 September will receive a free seller pack with posters, price tags and more to help you have a winning garage sale.
