On the back of the recent and highly successful Great Western Games, the North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF) has now opened nominations for the 2019 NQ Sportstar Awards.

The NQ Sportstar awards recognise the achievements of North Queensland’s elite athletes and sports administrators.  It is not only the highest level of regional recognition for all nominees, but a true celebration of sports across North Queensland.

Nominations for the awards are accepted from local government areas within the footprint of the NQSF, which spans as far north as Port Douglas, west to Mount Isa and south to Mackay.

This year’s awards will take place in Ingham on Saturday, 2 November 2019, at the Hinchinbrook Shire Hall.  All nominees are showcased at the prestigious event, with winners and runners-up announced live on the night.

The award categories for 2019 are as follows:

Junior (Nominees for Junior must be under the age of 18 years during the awards period) Senior (18 years and over during the awards period) Masters Athlete with a Disability Service to North Queensland Sport

In 2018, local tennis coach and former president of the Charters Towers Tennis Club, John Single, was awarded the prestigious Service to Sport Award.

This year, the NQSF has supplied an online nomination form, making it simpler for community members to put forward nominees for a Sportstar award.
