Seniors Week to launch for the first time at Marlborough

For the first time since launching Livingstone Shire Council’s annual Seniors Week events in 2014, Marlborough will celebrate the official opening of the 2019 Seniors Week tomorrow ahead of the huge list of activities about to take place across the Shire over the next 14 days.

Residents from across the Shire will join Marlborough community members at the Marlborough Hall for a free morning tea, honouring our senior residents and acknowledging the important role they play in our communities.

Community Development and Support and Senior Citizens Committee Chair, Councillor Jan Kelly said Seniors Week aims to provide opportunities for older members of the community to enjoy new experiences while learning about local services and support that is available.

“These events and activities are planned to offer the opportunity for our senior residents to make new friends and connections within their community that they might not have experienced otherwise,” Cr Kelly said.

“We have had wonderful feedback from residents who have participated in previous years and we continue to plan to build on our events and activities in future years.

“Council would like to sincerely thank all of the agencies, service providers, community groups and organisations who have helped to make this fantastic variety of events possible, and we look forward to welcoming our local seniors to each of the 16 events.”

Cr Kelly added that the events programme will feature musical entertainment, outdoor activities and a number of social gatherings including a Poet’s Breakfast, Forest Bathing for Wellbeing, and also the opportunity to get out on Keppel Bay on a Whale Watching cruise.

“Seniors form part of the rich fabric of our community and they deserve to be recognised for the invaluable contributions they have made, whilst making our region the wonderful place it is today,” Cr Kelly said.

“I’d like to thank the State Government and COTA Australia for their support to help Council facilitate these wonderful events for our senior community.”
