More water, healthier trees
Bayside City Council 16 Aug 2019

Trees in Sandringham and Brighton will be among the first to be watered from new stormwater and irrigation systems, as part of Council’s commitment to improving water efficiency.

The new system in A J Steele Reserve is complete, and North Road will have a system to capture rainwater for irrigating street trees by September.

Bayside Mayor Michael Heffernan said Council’s investment in sustainable water infrastructure is part of a plan to become a greener, more sustainable, city.

“These upgrades are the first actions from our draft Integrated Water Management Strategy which provides direction for more efficient water use within the municipality,” Cr Heffernan said.

“We are rolling out local water efficiency projects that maintain our city’s wonderful tree lined streets and parks over the next 20 years.”

The new stormwater harvesting systems also reduce the risk of flooding in highly utilised open spaces and road reserves, and help to reduce the impacts of climate change.
