Dual exhibitions opening in August

Fairfield City Museum & Gallery (FCMG) will host western Sydney based artist and Archibald finalist (2018) Amani Haydar’s The mother wound exhibition in the Community Space Gallery this month.
The solo exhibition is a series of new works which respond to Haydar’s experiences witnessing family and domestic violence, and working as a women’s advocate.
The mother wound opens jointly with the new social history exhibition Treasures from Home; a collection of personal belongings brought to Australia by individuals who migrated or sought refuge here.
The objects contributed by community members will be on display alongside FCMG’s collection items, photographic portraits and oral histories.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the exhibition provides a fresh look at the many stories of migration to be found in the Fairfield City area.
“These treasured keepsakes speak of a different life, a different time, connecting people to a place they once called home,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Each object tells a unique narrative about preserving a family’s history from abroad.
“I encourage the community to get immersed in the cultural histories captured in both exhibitions.”
