JT memorabilia auction to raise funds for our emerging leaders

Rare State of Origin memorabilia signed by Johnathan Thurston – his last State of Origin headgear and boot - will go under the hammer at next Tuesday’s A Night with JT fundraising dinner in St George to raise bursary funds for our young emerging leaders.

A framed Maroons jersey which was signed by 2019 team will also be up for auction on the night. Bids for the items will be taken on the night either in house or via phone by calling 0417 633 744.

Mayor Richard Marsh said the aim of the night was to provide young emerging leaders in Balonne Shire with a financial boost.

“The bursary recognises nominated young residents who have achieved outstanding success in their education or training and who have made a significant contribution to the community,” he said.

“We hope that through this bursary the candidate will be able to build their self-confidence, develop leadership and life skills and provide role models for other youth in our shire.”

The winners of the bursary will be announced on Australia Day 2020.

Deputy Mayor Fiona Gaske, who has played an integral role in securing Johnathan Thurston and the JTAcademy’s visit to Balonne Shire, said it was hoped the auction would raise substantial funds for the bursary.

“It’s really exciting that we have been able to secure these rare items to help raise funds to support and grow our future leaders and we are truly appreciative of JT and his team for supporting us,” she said.

A Night with JT is being held at the St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School Hall on Tuesday 27 August.
