Your views are being sought on the structure, ward boundaries and number of councillors that represent the communities of Bayside.
Ahead of the next council elections the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is reviewing the electoral structure of Bayside City Council to ensure fair and equitable representation for all voters.
These reviews happen on a cycle of every three elections, and the last review in 2007 resulted in a reduction of the number of councillors from nine to seven.
Bayside is divided into three wards now - North Ward and South Ward are represented by two councillors each and Central Ward has three councillors.
Two options are being proposed following preliminary submissions from the local community and the VEC’s own research.
One option is to maintain the status quo and the other option maintains the same number of councillors but proposes some adjustments to ward boundaries to make them simpler and easier to identify while minimising disruption to voters.
The options are outlined in a report on the VEC’s process to date and the consideration it has given to arrive at the two options.
Submissions can be made to the VEC by 5pm on Wednesday 11 September.
