Burdekin Shire Council is seeking a Pest Management Supervisor to assist the Senior Environmental Health Officer with the supervision of the functions and activities of the Pest Management Team in natural resource management, vector control and aquatic weed control in addition to playing an active role in these activities.
The Position
Reporting to the Senior Environmental Health Officer, the key responsibilities include:
Supervise, monitor and review daily activities of the Pest Management Team including motivation and development of employees on a day to day basis.Assist in the monitoring of budget expenditure and budget planning.Undertake activities associated with the Pest Management function in the areas of vector control, natural resource management and aquatic weed control.Assist in the implementation and review of Council’s Biosecurity Plan, Local Laws and Policies relevant to the work area.Liaise with natural resource management groups such as Lower Burdekin Landcare, Lower Burdekin Water, BBIFMAC, NQ Dry Tropics and officers of State Government departments.Provide advice to customers on issues relating to mosquito, pest plant and animal activity and control measures to minimise adverse impacts caused by infestations.Assist landholders with the preparation of Property Biosecurity Plans.Contribute to public education campaigns on pest management.The Person
The successful applicant will possess the following attributes at a minimum:
Demonstrated experience or ability in the supervision of employees and management of team outcomes.Demonstrated commitment to the principles of natural resource management and land care.Demonstrated experience and knowledge, in mosquito management including breeding sites, control methods and regulatory requirements as it relates to North Queensland.Demonstrated experience and knowledge in pest animal and plant management including control methodologies.Possession of sound computer skills with an ability to adapt to new computer technologies.Demonstrated experience in providing quality customer service including liaising and working with landowners and natural resource groups.Possess a current C Class Manual Drivers Licence.Possession of or the ability to obtain a Pest Control Operator’s Licence, Poisons Licence – Monosodium Fluoro-acetate (1080) and Agricultural Chemical Distribution Commercial Operator’s Licence.Applicants should familiarise themselves with the entire position description
The applicable salary is to a ceiling of Level 4 ($80,212pa) with the commencing salary dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
