Burdekin Shire Council is seeking a Pest Management Officer to undertake inspections and control operations to minimise the impacts of aquatic weeds, pest plants and animals and mosquitoes in accordance with legislation and the Council Biosecurity Plan.
The Position
Reporting to the Pest Management Supervisor, the key responsibilities include:
Undertake activities associated with the pest management function including pest water weed removal in conjunction with Council’s Riparian Management Programme, mosquito control and natural resource management.Liaise with natural resource management groups.Assist landholders with the preparation of Property Biosecurity Plans.Undertake co-ordinated, programmed mosquito and declared pest plant monitoring and control activities including inspections, pesticide applications, 1080 baiting, field survey, complaint investigation, and liaison with local customers.The Person
The successful applicant will possess the following attributes at a minimum:
Demonstrated commitment to the ideals of natural resource management and land care.Demonstrated experience and knowledge, in mosquito management including breeding sites, control methods and regulatory requirements as it relates to North Queensland.Demonstrated experience and knowledge in pest animal and plant management including control methodologies.Possession of sound computer skills with an ability to adapt to new computer technologies.Demonstrated experience in providing quality customer service including liaising and working with landowners and natural resource groups.Possess a current C Class Manual Drivers Licence and Recreational Marine Driver Licence.Possession of or the ability to obtain Pest Control Operator’s Licence, Poisons Licence – Monosodium Fluoro-acetate (1080) and Agricultural Chemical Distribution Commercial Operator’s Licence.Applicants should familiarise themselves with the entire position description.

The applicable salary is to a ceiling of Level 3 ($73,396) with the commencing salary dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
