Christmas decoration grants

Businesses are encouraged to spread the Christmas spirit by decorating local town centres, with the help of funding available through the City of Canterbury Bankstown’s new Christmas Decoration Grants Program.

Mayor Khal Asfour said up to $5,000 is being made available for each application which meets the criteria.

"We are encouraging businesses, particularly in suburban shopping strips, to partner together," he said.

"So long as they are committed to providing a quarter of the total cost of the decorations, Council will chip in the remaining three quarters. So if they want the maximum $5,000 from Council, they need to provide $1,667.

"It’s important to note, the aim is to evenly distribute the decorations along an entire shopping strip, for example, with individual shop owners left to personally decorate their own shops.

"This is about celebrating a festive time of year and supporting local businesses to promote Christmas cheer."

Canterbury-Bankstown is home to more than 33,000 thriving businesses that contribute significantly to the local economy.

"This is just another way Council is supporting local businesses," Mayor Asfour said.

"These programs help instil pride in our local business community and are on top of the assistance provided by our award-winning Canterbury-Bankstown Business Advisory Service and through our great job-creating events, like the recent Jobs and Skills Expo.

"I encourage local businesses to get in early and apply for a Christmas Decorations Grant online or via post.

"Wouldn’t it be great if all our local shopping strips can be all decked out for Christmas!"
