The City of Ballarat has accepted an invitation to send, at no cost to Council two representatives to the Hamamatsu Intercity Cooperation (ICC) Summit in Japan in October 2019.
A Councillor and a Council Officer will represent the City at the three-day summit.
The international trip is fully funded by the organiser.
In 2016 the City of Ballarat became the first Council in Australia to receive accreditation as an Intercultural City and has set the benchmark for Australian local government.
Ballarat is recognised by the Intercultural Cities Program as having good/best practice in relation to its Intercultural Strategy and activities including Harmony Fest, the Intercultural Ambassador program and Intercultural Employment Package.
The City of Hamamatsu is the closest ICC City to Ballarat outside of Australia and in 2018 students from Hamamatsu studying ICC principles and theory visited Ballarat.
This invitation is considered an opportunity for Ballarat to reciprocate that visit and learn more of ICC practices in Japan.
