Administration Centres to amalgamate

Charters Towers Regional Council has announced it will close operations at City Hall and relocate staff to its Administration Centre, located at 12 Mosman Street.  It is planned that the relocation will take place by the end of 2019, however this will be dependent on a number of factors associated with the project.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Johansson has said having only one administration centre for Council operations will be of great benefit to the community.

“After over 11 years of Council operating out of two administration offices, following the Council amalgamation, the time has now come for all administrative operations to be in one location. 

“Having only one location will enhance the customer experience and provide a central location for conducting Council services. It will also improve efficiencies in our internal operations.,” said Mr Johansson.

To accommodate the relocation of staff to the Administration Centre, sections of the building which were previously leased to third party organisations will be refurbished to create new office space.

It is expected that works will be completed within the next few months and that City Hall will close to the public by the end of the 2019 calendar year.

Once closed, City Hall will be repurposed for other projects.

“Although City Hall will no longer be used for Council operations, there are plans underway to make use of the space for Regional projects. The building won’t be vacant for very long.”
