Tarana Station Back on Track

A community celebration will be held bright and early on Monday September 16 at Tarana Station to celebrate the arrival of the Bathurst Bullet Train.  

For the first time the new Bathurst bullet service will be stopping at Tarana so the community is invited for a celebration breakfast to commemorate the occasion and the new opportunities the train service will bring to the village of Tarana.

“It’s a great opportunity for the village of Tarana,” says Mayor Ray Thompson. “It means not only can people now access the village more easily by train but it gives the residents of Tarana and the region the chance to more easily access services and employment and a range of other opportunities elsewhere.”

The community gathering will be at 7:30am at the station. Lithgow City Council and the Tarana Valley Community Group have organised a community breakfast, with bacon and egg rolls, coffee, a New Orleans style band performance by Mitchell Conservatorium and with representatives from other community agencies including the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) on hand.

“Whenever we get together as community or a group we should use it as an opportunity to check in with each other. This is especially important in times of hardship as farm families don’t often see stress as a health problem, but as a farm problem, which means they are less likely to seek professional help. We should see these events as a chance to look after our mates and ourselves, to ask the question “how are you going?” and to really listen to the responses, both said and unsaid,” says RAMHP coordinator Sonia Cox.
