Council has responded to a request from the Elsternwick Park Community Alliance Inc (EPCA) to provide an identity to a portion of Elsternwick Park South. The open space area, currently known as Oval 3 and surrounds, will be known as Lakeside Green to better reflect its use and meaning to the community.
EPCA has sought feedback from the community on an appropriate name for the area and Lakeside Green was the most popular choice from over thirty suggestions.
There will be no change to the name of the park overall, but new signage will be installed in strategic locations to indicate an area to be known as Lakeside Green. This will also assist residents, maintenance crews and emergency services to identify the area and to provide a sense of place within the broader reserve itself.
Oval 3 will still continue to be used for cricket during the summer season and for occasional school use year round in line with existing practice.
The full Council report regarding the naming of a portion of Elsternwick Park South, can be found in the Council Agenda papers from the meeting on 20 August 2019.
