The well-loved story of Charlotte, Fern and Wilbur is touring the region this September school holidays, with free movie screenings and live performances.

The treasured tale of Charlotte’s Web tells the story of hero Wilbur the Pig and his relationships and triumphs meeting his friends Charlotte the Spider, Fern the farmer’s daughter and farmyard characters Templeton the Rat, Sheep, Goose and Gander.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is thrilled to bring performing art events to our region.

“It’s a great opportunity to expose our youth to the arts and to a story that resonates well in regional communities,” she said.

“It’s a classic tale that everyone knows and loves, and to see it on the big screen and performed live is sure to be a treat for members of the community, regardless of their age.”

This heart-warming classic, written by E.B. White, was adapted as a stage play by Joseph Robinette, and is being directed by Alison Vallette and produced by Ruth Atkinson.

Toowoomba based RAVA Productions invited experienced and emerging local artists to perform in their adaptation, including actor/musician Harrison Paroz (Wilbur), actor Courtney Wagner (Fern, Goose) and singer/actor Sita Walker as the clever and beautiful spider, Charlotte.

Audience members of the live productions are also invited to participate in free activities prior to performances including facepainting and arts and crafts tables.

To complement the live performances, free screenings of the Charlotte’s Web movie will take place in Drillham, Kaimkillenbun and Tara, and Western Downs Libraries will be hosting a series of story time sessions and a colouring in competition.

Council has partnered with local community groups to provide food and drinks as a fundraising initiative.
