Properly maintaining the surface of our region’s roads is important.

Effective and timely road maintenance means a longer life for a road, a better quality driving surface and lower cost to the community in the long term. Road building can be an expensive exercise so maintaining our road network is very important, and at times challenging, given the impact of weather and our terrain.

“So far this year, Gympie Regional Council crews have repaired 1,902 potholes, repaired 732 metres of road edge breaks, asphalt corrected 738 square metres of road surface, and removed and replaced 6,517 square meters of road surface” Gympie Regional Council’s Manager Assets, Sam Murphy said.

“Building and maintaining our roads is a core function of council and our crews take a tremendous amount of pride in their work. “They understand the value provided to the community,” he said. Over the next two weeks, council crews are performing asphalt pavement repairs on Kilcoy Murgon Road, Yabba Creek Road, Maryborough Cooloola road, Tin Can Bay Road and Kandanga Imbil Road.

Gravel road re-sheeting is occurring on Gregory Road, Glen Musa Road, Smith Road, Collard Road and Booubyjan Hall Road. Parkyn Road, Meads Road, Old Greendale Road, A Flat Road and Tomine Road will be graded, while road maintenance will be carried out on Weir Entrance, Louisa Street, Old Maryborough Road and Lucknow Street in Gympie.
