Following extensive consultation in February this year, council now plans to host drop-in sessions in the Borella Road shopping area to gain more feedback about what residents want for the future of the busy corridor.
It’s part of a strategy to ensure the road between the Hume Freeway and Kerr Road is ready to service the growing residential and commercial sectors to the city’s east.
AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said the strategy would examine the best ways of improving the route for residents and businesses.
“We’ll be looking at changes over the long term to improve safety and the delivery of other services to meet growing demand,” he said.
“But as we continue this plan, it’s important that we continue to get ideas from the community about what’s needed so we can investigate the best ways of improving the corridor, including potentially seeking funding to introduce significant changes.”
The changes under consideration include:
Improved pedestrian crossings, particularly between the shops and hospitalPlanning for future road duplicationRoad upgrades to streamline access to service roadsMajor intersection upgrades to improve access and safetyThe section between Keene Street and East Street is a priority because of a history of accidents in the area, plus the need to improve connectivity between the shops and the hospital precinct.
Council staff will attend the information sessions at stalls in Borella Road (near East Albury IGA) on Thursday 29 August between 3pm and 6pm, and Saturday 31 August between 10am and 1pm.
Community members are invited to drop in to view preliminary concepts and discuss the strategy.
Once this information has been collected and added to the previous community feedback, the strategy will be developed and placed on further public exhibition.
