Council would like to remind residents that scavenging is prohibited at landfills and transfer stations.
Rangers will be patrolling sites and issuing fines for people caught scavenging. Council’s waste facilities are clearly signposted at the entrance that ‘all items deposited become the property of the Council and may only be removed by Authorised Persons.’
In addition to the safety risk of people going through waste, there have been incidences where residents were unable to gain access to a spot on the tip face to deposit their waste due to unauthorised persons parking and sorting through waste. Council’s rangers will be conducting random patrols of Council’s facilities to identify persons conducting unauthorised scavenging.
Due to the possible risk of falling or other injury associated with climbing onto waste or into bins at transfer stations, Council seeks your co-operation in abiding by the signage in place.
