Celebrations will be held throughout October to recognise the role Victorians aged 60 years and older play in the community.

Gannawarra Shire Council is supporting the 37th Victorian Seniors Festival, hosting a number of free or low-cost events for its valued citizens.

Celebrations commence in the Gannawarra on Wednesday, 9 October with the free Gannawarra Country Concert at the Kerang Memorial Hall, featuring the music of Carole King and James Taylor.

“Whether it is an afternoon of music, a cruise along Gunbower Creek or enjoying a day at Charlton’s Rex Theatre, there is something on offer for everyone within the Gannawarra during the 2019 Victorian Seniors Festival,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth

Major events being held during the month-long festival include a bus trip to Charlton’s Rex Theatre for the screening of 2019 movie Poms on Wednesday, 16 October, a free makeup workshop at the Sir John Gorton Library, Kerang on Tuesday, 29 October and a Wetlander River Cruise on Thursday, 31 October.

The Gannawarra Library Service is also hosting celebrations, with Grandparents Story Time sessions planned for its Cohuna branch on Thursday, 10 October and the Sir John Gorton Library, Kerang on Thursday, 24 October.

“The theme of this year’s Victorian Seniors Festival is Get into It!, and I encourage all seniors in the Gannawarra to do that throughout October,” Mayor Learmonth said.

To plan ahead, residents are encouraged to grab a copy of Council’s Victorian Seniors Festival Guide(PDF, 587KB) now and schedule in their calendar the activities available throughout the month. The guide also features other community events occurring throughout October and includes details regarding Council’s popular Social Meals program.
