This October Council will again be participating in the annual Victorian Seniors Festival with a month-long program of events, activities and attractions offered to residents across the city.

Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Rob Steane, said the festival experience was all about getting out and about in the local community.

“Maroondah has a great line-up of activities planned for residents in October as part of the 2019 Victorian Seniors Festival, which gives us the chance to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of older people within our community,” Cr Steane said.

This year, Council has coordinated a diverse and enjoyable program of events, which are supported and provided by local seniors clubs, groups, services and programs.

“We encourage as many residents as possible to take part in the activities and celebrations that are being held throughout October, all of which are contained within our free booklet released this week,” Cr Steane said.

“This year’s program has been carefully developed to include a variety of events and activities that cater for beginners keen to give something new a try, or for those with more experience,” he said.

Included in the 2019 program are information sessions, training courses, walking tours, outdoor and indoor exercise classes, comedy shows, library visits, movie and craft sessions, and so much more.

The booklet also contains information on free public transport travel for Seniors Card holders between Sunday 6 October and Sunday 13 October.

Council’s popular Seniors Festival Day at Karralyka on Tuesday 15 October will include four free activities running throughout the day.

The annual Seniors Wellbeing Expo will be held from 9.30am to 2pm, along with the Maroondah Seniors Festival Celebration Lunch from 11.45am.

The expo will provide a variety of displays and information by local organisations aimed at Maroondah residents 65 years of age and over (50 years and over for people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait).

During the Festival Day, internationally renowned theatre star Michael Cormick will present Feelin’ Good as part of a Seniors Concert from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Be entertained as Michael performs songs from some of his favourite shows, including The Phantom of the Opera and The Boy from Oz, while being treated to a free morning tea.

Karralyka will also host the Maroondah Seniors Festival Comedy Event from 2pm to 3pm. Come along and have your funny bone tickled by comedian and baby boomer Monica Dullard as she presents her hilarious show Ageing with Attitude.

Tickets for both performances and the Celebration Lunch will be available from 10am on Monday 2 September. There are limited places for the free lunch event, so people interested are encouraged to book early to secure their place.
