Maroondah property owners should have received their 2019/20 rates notice last week, which includes a four-page rates brochure highlighting how rates are allocated, including some of the planned capital works projects that will take place during this financial year.

Maroondah Mayor Councillor Rob Steane said the brochure provides some additional information on how the rates revenue is allocated across Council services.

“The brochure highlights some of the 120 services provided to the community by Council, and information on how rates are calculated,” Cr Steane said.

“This year we have budgeted $28.76 million in the capital works program to ensure that our assets continue to meet the needs of the community now and well into the future,” he said.

“This program includes over $3.5 million to maintain and upgrade our recreational facilities such as playgrounds, golf courses, sporting fields and reserve bridges.

“There is also more than $7.6 million allocated to improve roads, local area traffic management and commercial centres, and an additional $2.8 million on footpath replacement works and improved footpath access at numerous locations across the municipality,” Cr Steane said.

Property values have been assessed as of 1 January 2019, reflecting the State Government legislated valuation of all properties for the Local Government sector.

The 2019 General Valuation ensures an equitable distribution of rates across the community. Information about each individual property’s value is included on the valuation and rates notice.
