A nature play area, basketball court and additional walking paths are just some of the new features being installed at Golden Square Reserve in Hoppers Crossing.
Wyndham City Sports Development portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, and Member for Tarneit, Sarah Connolly, commemorated the start of construction in a ceremony on Monday (26th August).
The $650,000 project is jointly funded by Wyndham City and the Victorian Government.
Cr Maynard said a new 300-metre walking circuit would encourage active lifestyles and benefit people seeking to improve their fitness.
“The refreshed grass will make this the ideal place to take your four-legged friends for a walk, while children will be able to run around in the upgraded playground,” Cr Maynard said.
“We’re putting in a new swing, seesaw and climbing unit but also encouraging kids to go back to basics and get their hands dirty.”
“Our nature-based play areas include trees children can climb, plants they can touch and logs they can balance on.”
“Children will build their resilience and enhance their imaginations by taking risks and exploring the great outdoors.”
“We’re also planting lots of taller trees to ensure the park has plenty of shade and is a great place to visit all year round.”
“In addition, the new picnic facilities will be perfect for family gatherings.”
The project is due to be completed in November 2019.
